Jewelry, Metal and Art Classes

Michele Judge is the leading private Jewelry and metalwork instructor in the Philadelphia area, offering both private instruction and small group classes. Participants work alongside Michele in her studio at the Cedar Works, a studio space for artists in West Philadelphia.

For those interested in developing and advancing jewelry and metal working skills, classes are organized in a clear progression that will allow the student to advance as they acquire skills, all the while developing their own custom jewelry and metal pieces.

If you are interested in creating a custom piece of jewelry in partnership with the artist, Michele offers jewelry making experiences where you develop a concept together and co-create the piece in the studio over the course of an entire session.  Any and all skill levels welcome! This is the ideal opportunity for couples wanting to craft their personalized wedding rings together or birthday / anniversary / special event for 1-2 people.

All classes are scheduled by the participant to fit their schedule. Classes can be booked online with an interactive calendar scheduler.

Standard private classes are $150 per 2.5 hour block. Some classes are a series of two or three 2.5 hour blocks. Rates are for one person. Each additional student (up to 3 total), is $50 per class.

Starting in January:

Second Sundays' Group Sessions

This year Michele Judge will be hosting a group class that will discuss chosen topics in the art and craft world.  Participants can bring in things they made or images of work they are interested in for group discussion.  These discussions will be aimed at improving the work of the individual as well as inspiring new ideas and insights for everyone in the group.  Relevant work by past and present practicing artists, world renowned and otherwise, will be presented and discussed in the group.  Understanding the functions, concepts and history within particular aspects in art as a whole, as well as ones own work, helps to guide and strengthen the path and abilities of the artist.

These sessions will begin with a presentation of the chosen topic with examples of professional work, followed by a group critique/discussion using the subject matter presented by participants and teacher.  A demonstration will be given on the relevant technique/topic and all will be free to practice and receive feedback from others.

Each class will differ from the last depending on the interests of the participants as a group but the structure will remain the same.  Overall, this will be a free-flowing process presenting the opportunity for participants to receive what they need from an educational, professionally guided, group environment.

For begining artists looking to form a strong fountain in the arts this space is an opportunity to become educated in the process, language, and community of the true art world.

For practicing artists these sessions will be an opportunity to recieve feedback, clarify an idea, and learn more about specific areas of interest.

Most sessions will be held at The Cedar Works in West Philly but some will meet at relevant locations for onsite discussions and activities.

More information on chosen topics and dates will be coming soon.  In the meantime, if your interested and have a topic request please fill out the form at the bottom of this page.  We appreciate your input!
